MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. CIVIL RIGHTS CEREMONY

Residents are invited to attend the 12th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Civil Rights Breakfast and Awards Ceremony, held from 7 to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 12 at the Gilbert Boys and Girls Club, 44 N. Oak Street. The theme for this year’s event is “Building Upon His Legacy: One Man, One Dream, One Nation” and features a dance ensemble, guest speakers, a poetry reading, singing and much more. The breakfast is organized by the Gilbert Human Relations Commission.

The Gilbert Boys & Girls Club dance ensemble called De Ja Vu Hip Hop will perform for the audience, and 12 year-old vocalist Gabreille Scott will sing a rendition of “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing.” Mayor Steve Berman will present the Rosa Parks Art Award, and a video presentation will be shown. The Master of Ceremonies will be Cody Williams, Director of the Greater Phoenix Black Chamber of Commerce.

The event includes a catered breakfast and admission is $5. Information: (480) 539-2551.
